Most older adults are satisfied with their lives and enjoy their retirement, their interests, their families and their friends. Despite the increased likelihood of losing a loved one or of physical illness or disability, old age is not necessarily a time of sadness and depression. The majority of older people have the resources of a lifetime of experience to face, in a positive way, the various changes that occur at this stage of their lives. However, for some the  challenges can be great, and tremendous strain is placed on their ability to cope effectively.
